Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil is a natural oil extracted from the seeds of the sunflower plant. It has been used for various purposes including cooking, medicinal, and cosmetic purposes for centuries. In recent years, it has become increasingly popular in the beauty industry due to its numerous skin care benefits.
Sunflower oil is rich in nutrients and antioxidants such as vitamin E, A, and D, which are essential for healthy skin. Its lightweight texture makes it easy to absorb into the skin, without leaving a greasy residue. Here are some of the skin care benefits of sunflower oil:
-
Moisturizing: Sunflower oil is an excellent moisturizer for the skin. It penetrates deeply into the skin and helps to retain moisture, making the skin soft and supple. It is perfect for those with dry or dehydrated skin.
-
Anti-inflammatory: Sunflower oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce redness and inflammation on the skin. It can be used to soothe and calm irritated skin caused by conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.
-
Anti-aging: Sunflower oil is rich in antioxidants, which can help to protect the skin from free radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage the skin and can lead to premature aging. Sunflower oil can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and keep the skin looking youthful.
-
Acne-fighting: Sunflower oil has antibacterial properties that can help to fight acne-causing bacteria on the skin. It can also help to regulate sebum production, which can help to prevent breakouts.
-
Gentle makeup remover: Sunflower oil is a gentle and effective makeup remover. It can easily dissolve makeup, including waterproof mascara, without stripping the skin of its natural oils.
BOTANICAL NAME: Helianthus (from Greek helias meaning 'the sun' and anthos, meaning 'a flower') annuus (annual)
EXTRACTION: Cold pressed
DESCRIPTION: The common sunflower is a vibrant annual flower native to North America. These flowers grow to be quite tall (approximately 3 meters) and have a sturdy stem. The seeds are found in the centre of the flower’s face and are surrounded by brilliant yellow petals. In the 16th century, sunflower seeds were brought to Europe and remain an important crop today. Seeds from the sunflower are collected, the hulls are removed, and the seeds inside are then cold pressed in order to obtain a pale yellow to yellow oil.
