DESCRIPTION: The Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) tree is native to tropical Asia, however it is now found more frequently in Southern Italy.  Bergamot has been used in Italian culture and medicine for some time.  The name “Bergamot” is derived from the city in Italy where the essential oil was originally sold in the Lombardy region.  Peels of the ripened fruit of the Bergamot tree are cold pressed in order to create an essential oil that is used for a variety of functions.  The essential oil has a citrusy scent with spicy undertones used frequently in perfumes as well as aromatherapy and wellness circles.
