What is sebum made of?

Human sebum is about 57% triglycerides and fatty acids, 26% wax esters, 12% squalene and 4.5% cholesterol. Squalene and wax esters are found nowhere else in the body. Together they help protect skin from the sun, defend against microbes and carry antioxidants to the skin's surface.

Why does stripping my skin backfire?

Harsh cleansers can't tell the difference between the day's grime and the oil your skin needs, so they take it all. That squeaky, tight feeling is your skin telling you its protection is gone.

How are Cocoon cleansers different?

We cleanse with plant oils and gentle, plant-derived cleansing agents instead of harsh detergents. Jojoba is a liquid wax ester, so close to the wax esters in sebum that researchers use it to make synthetic sebum. Oil dissolves oil, and your skin stays comfortable.

Which cleanser is right for me?
